U.S. New Embassy Campus
Nassau, Bahamas
The landscape of the US Embassy in The Bahamas is a representation of the different climate types and plant communities in the country. Public outdoor areas are bounded by dense vegetation comprised of plants native to the wetter northern Bahamas. The center zones with walking paths are comprised of limestone gravel and paving reminiscent of the beaches and outcroppings of the drier islands in the south of the archipelago.
Care was taken to source plants endemic or native to The Bahamas and to specify plants of medicinal and cultural importance. The use of plants for medicinal purposes has decreased with increases in tourism and development on the islands, and this campus seeks to preserve the traditional knowledge for future generations.
