U.S. New Consular Compound

Chiang Mai, Thailand

Inspired by a city of warm brick, dark carved woods, and lush foliage, the US NCC in Chiang Mai landscape honors and reinterprets traditional materials and design practices for a modern diplomatic facility.

A warm orange-red brick is used throughout the campus on paved surfaces and walls to link the landscape and architecture with the local context.

Landscape rooms are thematically connected with the architectural expression of the building and are defined by the planting character and light quality. The campus addresses the issue of deforestation in Northern Thailand by featuring native or endemic tree species in a main entry “arboretum.”
